LAS VEGAS - A large exotic rodent gambled with his life in Las Vegas this week.
"At first we thought it was a baby kangaroo or something because it was hopping around," said someone near the location where the animal was found.
What appeared to be a baby kangaroo at first, turned out to be a patagonian mara. The South American animal zigzagged its way across a parking lot, hiding under cars along the way.
"It looks kind of like a very large rabbit or very small deer and it's South American," said another person at the scene.
A bystander called 911 after she saw someone dump the animal into traffic.
"They just through it out with no care. Right in traffic it wasn't off into the side of the road or nothing," said one witness.
The animal then sent authorities on a chase before finally being caught.
