Baby giraffe named after online contest

Meet Kiden.

She's the newest baby giraffe at the Greenville Zoo and now she officially has a name.

Kiden is the first female offspring of her mom Autumn, who has already given birth to three boy giraffes.

Picking a name for this new bundle of joy was left up to an internet contest. But don't worry, she wasn't named Giraffy McGiraffeface.

Kiden was selected from nearly 250 submissions.

The Grubel family from Greer, South Carolina decided to enter the winning name, which has African origins and means "female born after three-plus boys."

"We love giraffes," Alicia Grubel said, pointing toward her daughter who was wearing a pink giraffe outfit. "We're forever grateful to the Greenville Zoo and we'll always have a place in our heart."

The Grubels actually also named Autumn's first boy, Kiko, five years ago.
