Mid-day storms down trees, damage gas station

Storms roared through metro Atlanta around mid-day Wednesday, downing trees across the area and damaging a gas station.

Photos shared by FOX 5 viewer Traci Curran showed the damage done when winds knocked down the canopy over gas pumps at a Valero gas station at 3062 Shallowford Road in east Cobb County.

Another FOX 5 viewer e-mailed a photo of a tree on a residence off LaVista and Briarcliff Roads in DeKalb County.

FOX 5 Facebook user Brandon Neisler submitted video of traffic stopped on I-85 near Pleasant Hill Road in Gwinnett County, due to heavy rain on the roadway.

Storm damage was also reported on Delmar Drive. Sandy Springs police tweeted several images of a fallen tree that caused major damage inside the home. No one was injured, according to police. 

The National Weather Service issued a number of severe thunderstorm warnings during the height of the storms.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 p.m. for Pike County, Banks County, Newton County, Henry County, Oglethorpe County, Oconee County, Jasper County, Lamar County, Spalding County, Clarke County, Putnam County, Jackson County, Morgan County, Madison County, Meriwether County, Upson County, Butts County, and Greene County.

There were no immediate reports of injuries into the FOX 5 newsroom.
