ATLANTA - An exciting day in Midtown Tuesday, where officials and community members celebrated the official groundbreaking of the re-imagined Colony Square.
Residents were invited to enjoy food and entertainment Tuesday afternoon, at the site on Peachtree Street.
The community will become what officials call "an urban entertainment and dining destination."
The new development will have retail and office space, community gathering places, restaurants, and a food hall.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said this project will bring new life to the area.
“This is going to be a transformational project in the life of the city. The amount of development that's occurring within a one-mile walk of where we are today. This is part of the center of action for the city of Atlanta. Colony Square completely imagined,” said Mayor Reed. “Whatever is the best is going to be right here.”
The event also featured the live demolition of Building 500 with a wrecking ball, that guests were invited to sign.
