Man used woman's ID to live rent, bill free

- Police in Senoia said they have caught a con man who investigators said stole the identities of several women to live rent-free in metro Atlanta. Police initially thought their suspect was a woman.

In February, a woman came to Senoia Police after Georgia Power informed her someone was trying to use her name to connect utilities at this home in Stone Mountain. Police began digging. It was natural assumption by investigators the suspect they would be looking for was a female. Investigators said they were not far into the case when they discovered their suspect was not a woman at all.

Police said the name of the man they later arrested in the case was Fard Rakhan Muhammad. Investigators said they found multiple stolen credit cards and multiple stolen IDs he had been using to live rent and utility bill free in both Sandy Springs and Stone Mountain.

Investigators said they discovered Fard Muhammed had also used the woman's identity to rent an apartment in Sandy Springs, but police said although he got a lease and utilities, he never paid the rent or the monthly bills, leaving that mess on the victims' credit report.

Police said they plan to file local charges and then turn the case over to federal authorities because when arrested they said Fard Muhammed had a handgun. Investigators said he is a convicted felon with a long criminal history that includes ID theft, fraud, and battery.
