College student Jon Paul Perez jumped into action when his Dad started screaming in the middle of the night inside their northwest Houston house this week.

“He came in to my doorway and was screaming get down here now there's some guy in our house,” he said.

The alleged intruder, 52-year-old George Arthur Smith, parked his car in their driveway and then broke in to the Heather Wood neighborhood house with the family fast asleep.

“He went to my mom's side of the bed and started to try to take off her clothes,” said Perez.

Not knowing if the intruder was armed or what his motives really were, Jon's mom told her husband to leave the room and get their son out.

“My mom had I guess the motherly love instinct of get the family out of here.”

Instead, once the intruder heard two men screaming, he tried to leave but was met with quite a fistful of father/son fury.

“My dad was already in it with him, and I just came behind him and start wailing on his head as many times as I can,” said Perez.

Jon and his Dad dragged Smith outside and pinned him down.

“We roughed him up a little bit then we pinned him on his back and my dad had his head buried in the concrete.”

After the 9-1-1 calls poured in, Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables arrived just minutes later.

“The husband and the son no doubt stopped a more serious crime from taking place. The individual did not appear to be armed but he did appear to be under the influence of some type of substance. We don't know what that is,” said Perez.

Police do know how the suspect got inside -- through an unlocked side door.  It’s something this family says won't happen again.

“I believe it could've been a lot worse and I do believe we’re lucky and since then we've taken proper steps to better protect our family,” said Perez.

Smith was taken to a hospital and is now behind bars charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault. He’s being held on a $20,000 bond and has no previous criminal history.
