Vigil held for teen killed sitting near corner store

- A teen was gunned down while sitting near a southwest Atlanta corner store late Thursday night.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Ja'Carlos Jeffries, of Atlanta. According to police, Jeffries was in the 300 block of Fletcher Street when someone shot him multiple times just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

Paramedics rushed Jeffries to Grady Memorial Hospital, but he did not survive.

"We are looking for one suspect who we believe is responsible for the shooting and at this point in time we are canvassing the neighborhood looking for additional leads," said Lt. Ricardo Vazquez, Atlanta Police Department. "He was assaulted by the suspect. We have no motive yet on why or if there was anything that led up to the shooting incident."

Detectives said the gunman was last seen running down Fletcher toward Windsor. They don't have a good description of him.Police also don't know why the deadly shooting took place, but said they don't think robbery was the motive.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Atlanta Police.
