Man sentenced for opening fire on 2 Lavonia officers

The man who opened fire on two police officers in Franklin County will spend the next 50 years in jail.

Khari Gordon pleaded guilty to a number of charges including aggravated assault on an officer.

Gordon was out on bond for attempted murder in December when Lavonia Police Captain Michael Schulman and Officer Jeffery Martin pulled him over.

Prosecutors said Gordon fired his gun at Captain Schulman.

The bullet went under his bulletproof vest, shattered his ribs, and punctured his lungs.

Officer Martin was also shot in the hand.

Both survived.
