A man was hurt and two dozen people were left without a place to stay after a fire broke out late Wednesday night at an apartment complex in DeKalb County.

Firefighters responded to the Silver Oak Apartment Homes on Brockett Road in Clarkston before midnight. Upon arrival, they found flames in an upstairs unit. It didn't take those firefighters long to get the blaze under control. Unfortunately, by then a man had gotten hurt.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital. Firefighters told FOX 5 he suffered first and second degree burns to his left arm. That victim is expected to survive.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.  Firefighters said all eight units in the building were left unlivable.

A total of 24 people, including eight children, are now homeless. The Red Cross is assisting the victims.
