Police: 20-year-old man dies in Clayton Co. apartment shooting

A man was shot and killed after an altercation with another person at an apartment complex in Clayton County, according to the Clayton County Police Department.

Fanoris Jermaine Jackson Jr., 20, was found by police lying on pavement in the complex suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police.

The shooting happened at Highland Woods Apartments around 2 p.m. Saturday, and Jackson Jr. was rushed to the hospital, and later died, according to police on the scene.

Police say witnesses to the shooting signaled to officers that the suspect was running from the scene. Officers pursued the suspect on foot but were not able to successfully apprehend him, according to police.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, wearing all black, 5'09" to 5'11" tall, and 150-160 lbs.

Officials say no one is in custody at this time.
