ATLANTA - They came to his Buckhead home in the late night hours to steal his wife’s Porsche. Instead, they ended up running away at the business end of a shotgun.
“It was in a better situation right before this,” said Douglas Coghlin as he pointed to his wife’s 2015 Cayenne SUV, damaged and stuck on a concrete overhang in his driveway.
“Last night around 11:30 a couple of guys that shouldn’t have been in our driveway attempted to steal it,” said Coghlin.
He said he rushed out of his house when alerted by his security system. His home cameras recorded two men, one outside, one inside his wife’s Cayenne.
“When I came out running I had a shotgun in my hand. I had the safety on like I usually do. But it probably wouldn’t have been a good idea to use it even to scare them,” said Coghlin.
He said when he approached the men they ran down the hill, one of them leaving the SUV running and in reverse.
“The car continued to follow him on its own and ended up in this situation,” said Coghlin.
He shared the video of the two men who failed to steal his wife’s Porsche but not what was in it.
“She left her handbag, wallet, her computer which are now all gone,” said Coghlin.
Atlanta Police told FOX 5 News since November there have been 22 thefts from vehicles and a dozen stolen vehicles in the area.
Coghlin said it’s fortunate no one was injured at his home but he’s not so sure about the next time.
“I hope they do stop I hope there’s no an ugly confrontation I don’t want anybody even the perpetrators to be harmed,” said Coghlin.
He’s warning other homeowners to remove valuables and keys from their vehicles.
He said the attempted car theft occurred the one time his wife left her keys in the car.
Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call the Atlanta Police Department.
