ATLANTA - A Lyft driver was attacked and robbed while on the job in Buckhead on Sunday night. And it was all just around the corner and 100 yards away from the Atlanta Police Department Zone Two prescient.
Prentice Waller said he is speaking out to warn others about staying aware. He said it happened quick and he thought he was a pretty cautious person, but Waller said the incident made him realize he needs to pay even more attention.
"I was sitting there on my phone like I always do. Somebody knocks on the window hard with some metal. I think it's police telling me to move next thing I know it's a gun," said Waller.
And in that moment Sunday night, Waller said he did exactly what the robber told him to do and handed over his wallet and cell phone.
"He goes get out of here. I go to get out my car, open my door and he's like pull off one, two… I hit drive I was gone," said Waller.
Waller said he worked for Lyft for three years.
"I've never had a problem. I've been in bad areas but I haven't run into problems like that," said Waller.
Waller said this won't stop him from driving, but it will make him even more cautious and he's thankful he walked away from the ordeal.
"I was so scared. I’m just glad he didn't shoot because there are times when people will rob you and get everything they want and still shoot you. That's what was rushing through my mind the whole time," said Waller.
Prentice wants to warn other drivers to stay away from side streets and to stay in well-lit areas where people are around.
Atlanta police are looking for the robber.
