Lightning Strikes Just Three Feet Away From Child

A Jasper family is grateful no one was hurt after lightning strikes their house on Christmas Eve.

Lisa Chaney had gotten up from bed to let her cat out when lightning hit her Jasper home just three feet away from her where her three-year-old granddaughter slept.

“It was very scary,” said Chaney.  “After the fact I was definitely in a state of shock.”

Chaney said after the lightning struck she saw smoke and that’s when she gathered up her family and rushed outside.

“Not only was there the smoke, you could smell the electrical smell ,” said Chaney.  “It was extremely strong, so it was just a matter of lets go.”

Chaney said the lightning blew out her floor vents and even broke a few items in her one of her cabinets.  In the house you can see where the force of the lightning blew out a socket cover.  In the backyard a light post is knocked over; the concrete that held it up is completely busted open.

Chaney and her husband are spending Christmas in a hotel until they can get their house up and running again.
