Large fire consumes home in Snellville

A Snellville resident is dealing with the loss of their home after a tragic fire Saturday night.

Multiple neighbors reported a house in the 2400 block of Bankston Circle that had visible smoke and flames. When fire crews arrived on the scene at 10:16 p.m., a large blaze had already spread to the back of the single-story house and through its roof.

While the firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control and keep it from spreading to other homes, Gwinnett County Fire officials said that the home "appears to be a total loss."

Thankfully, the homeowner was not inside during the fire and there were no injuries.

An investigation has been requested to see the cause of the fire. Officials say that the homeowner said that they had a fire in the fireplace earlier that night and that the fire originally came from the chimney chase.

In a statement, fire officials reminded Georgians to make sure that their smoke alarms are working and to maintain their heating appliances, including the fireplace.
