Lake Burton swells after week of hard rain

Lake Burton rose several feet because of the heavy rains over the past few days.

The water level rose about two feet since Tuesday forcing the Army Corp of Engineers to open the dam to release some of that water on Friday afternoon.

Even though the lake itself has only gotten a little under three inches of rain, the lake’s feeders upstream have received over three inches, causing it to accumulate in the area.

FOX 5 Viewer Crystal Ortiz shared photos of the release from the dam as well as flooding along the lake.

Water got so high it spilled over its banks on the front porch of some homes.

Saturday, much of the metro Atlanta area is still trying to dry out, and some people are working to clean up the mess left behind.
