Kennesaw police are investigating a shooting that put a 16-year old in the hospital. It happened in the Brookwood subdivision off Baker Road.

Thursday afternoon, detectives were seen going in and out of a home on Clairsbrook Lane. Police said this is where the 16 year old lives. Investigators believe he was shot on a trail behind the home and made it back to his home where his family called 911. Police immediately began searching for the gunman.

“We have officers at the hospital and canvassing the neighborhood,” said Kennesaw Police Officer Scott Luther.

The teen's mom told FOX 5 News she has no idea what happened. She said she was planning to drive her son to school when he told her he was going to walk to the store first. She said the next thing she knew he came back into the home bleeding.

“He came in and said he had been shot. Hearing those words come from your child is gut wrenching,” said the mom.

The teen's mom is pleading for answers and praying for her son.

“We all want the best for our children and we just want to make sure they're safe and they come home to us safely,” said the mom.

The shooting happened just a street away from Baker Elementary. The school was put on lockdown as a precaution. Eddie Harris has a daughter who goes to the school.

“Kind of shocked to wake up to see this going on in your neighborhood, especially this close to an elementary school. Let's hope the teen pulls through,” said Harris.

Investigators said they are waiting to talk to the 16 year old at the hospital. They're hoping he can give them information as to who shot him.
