In their own words: 6th District Congressional candidates

One of my favorite things about digital media is the opportunity to bring you a fuller version of a story -- in this case the 6th District Congressional race.

I had the pleasure of sitting down separately with Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff to discuss their historic runoff election.

Two-minute excerpts of these interviews aired during our regularly scheduled newscasts, and, in the old days, that would have been it.

Now, if you're interested, you have a chance to hear their complete, unedited answers. (And to see whether I represented them fairly on TV).

I tried to give each of them ample time to discuss both the politics of their race and the policies they advocate.

For what it's worth, I think the campaign ads -- particularly those bought by outside money – are caricatures that do them, and us, a disservice.

Hopefully, you’ll get a truer picture here.

The candidates deserve our respect for their willingness to serve the country in elective office and to endure the bruising nature of these campaigns.

Early voting in the Special Election begins May 30. Election Day is June 20.
