Mourners gathered Saturday for the funeral service for rapper Shawty Lo, who was killed last week in a fiery car crash on a freeway near southwest Atlanta.

The service, which was open to the public, was scheduled to begin at noon at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. The homegoing celebration came a day after crowds honored the Atlanta native during a vigil.

The entertainer, whose name is Carlos Walker, was remembered as a mentor, humanitarian and a great father. His children shared memories, as well as his son, Carlos Walker Jr., who addressed the crowd via phone from prison.

"I'm really lost for words right now. It's a big loss.  There is only one Lo. I can not fill his shoes," Walker said.

Rappers Gucci Mane and Lil' Boosie were among celebrities who sent video tributes.

The 40-year-old rapper, whose real name is Carlos Walker, was ejected from a 2016 Audi when the vehicle struck a couple of trees, overturned and burst into flames early Wednesday. Passengers Destini Carter and Deshondria Miller escaped the wreckage. Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Many celebrities have taken to social media to express their grief and sadness over Shawty Lo's passing.
