GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Gwinnett County fire investigators say hoverboard components started a fire in an apartment at The Fields at Peachtree Corners Apartments late Thursday night.
Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving a report of the fire. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from one unit.
Several occupants were located on a third-floor balcony but all were safely evacuated through a breezeway. The fire was contained to a single apartment but there was smoke and water damage to other units in the building. No injuries were reported.
The residents of the apartment where the fire started were not at home at the time.
A fire investigator determined the fire started in the living room and was caused by hoverboard components.
A Red Cross disaster team is on the scene and helping 35 people who were displaced by the fire.
