CORNELIA, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A Habersham County mother was arrested after being accused of killing her 3-month-old daughter.
Elba Maureen Santiago, 25, was charged with murder, cruelty to children, and two counts of aggravated battery. Cornelia Police said their officers responded to the AppleTree Inn located at 190 S. Main Street on Monday after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant.
Medics rushed to the infant to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she was assessed and flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite due to trauma, police said. The little girl later died.
Police said the trauma injuries were consistent with child abuse.
