Thief identified in Gwinnett $31K online car scam
AUBURN, Ga. - Gwinnett County Police have identified a man accused of posing as an online car dealer and scamming a seller out of over $31,000.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Jack Oviedo, of Buford, on a felony charge of theft by taking.
Police say Oviedo’s whereabouts are unknown at this time, and it’s possible he has left the state of Georgia.
On November 3, police say an Auburn man wired $31,400 to a BB&T account that he thought belonged to an out-of-state online dealer. He was told the 2013 Infinity QX56 would be delivered the following week, but that didn’t happen, according to police. The seller, identified as Oveido, who had opened the account under a fake identity, disappeared with the money.
Police say the Oviedo is shown in surveillance images withdrawing the victim’s money from several metro Atlanta locations, including a BB&T on Braselton Highway in Dacula.
