Man killed in Christmas Eve shooting identified, search for killer continues

Police have released the identity of the victim of a deadly shooting on Christmas Eve as the search for his accused killer continues.

Surveillance video shows a suspect running down the sidewalk along Martin Luther King Boulevard just moment after 33-year-old Cedric Weaver was shot and killed. 

Around 12:30 p.m. on December 24, Atlanta Police say they were informed of a shooting at 876 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Northwest. According to APD Sgt. Warren Pickard, the suspect walked up to the victim's vehicle and fired several times into the car. The man was shot in the head and chest.

He had to be rushed to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition, but the victim has since passed away. Investigators are withholding the name of the victim until they can reach his next of kin.

Police were able to obtain video and still images of the suspected gunman running from the crime scene immediately following the shooting. The footage shows the suspect running westbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Anyone with information that can assist law enforcement is asked to call the homicide unit with Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers.
