A shootout on the campus of Georgia State University the night before classes started. Now police want your help to find the person who opened fire on GSU police officers

Georgia State University Police say they exchanged gunfire with a possible carjacking suspect late Sunday night.

That night, GSU officers responded to the University Commons parking deck in the 100 block of Piedmont Avenue in downtown Atlanta.  GSU Police Chief Joe Spillane told FOX 5 that one of the suspects fired at the officers, two of whom shot back. It appears neither of the officers or the suspect ended up getting hit.

One man was taken into custody, the charges are unknown. Police are also looking for a woman they say was spotted talking to the man before police approached them.

The GBI was called in to handle the investigation.  A number of shell casing could be seen on Ellis Street, near the intersection with Piedmont. Officials blocked off the Ellis Street entrance to the Downtown Connector and Freedom Parkway for a couple of hours. The road has reopened.

While police were looking for more suspects they placed the dorms on lockdown, preventing students from coming or going.

Georgia State fall classes begin Monday morning.
