Georgia prisoner sentenced for escaping camp to meet girlfriends

A federal prisoner has been given additional prison time for escaping from a prison camp in Atlanta to have sex with girlfriends.

Federal prosecutors say Jaye L. Thomas of Dalton was sentenced to an additional year and nine months. That is to be served after his current 11 year, three month prison term.

Prosecutors say surveillance images showed Thomas escaping from the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta in March and April 2016. They say eyewitness testimony, cellphone records and other evidence confirmed that he escaped from the penitentiary's prison camp three times to have sex with two different girlfriends.

Thomas was previously sentenced in January 2015 after he was convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. He was sent to the prison camp for minimum-security prisoners in 2016.
