GBI: Rockdale County deputy arrested after 5-month investigation

A Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Thursday after a five-month investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Dan Lang, 37, was charged on multiple violations of theft by taking (firearms), a charge of theft of excess of $40,000 in US currency, and one count of violation of oath of office.

The GBI began their investigation April 10 after a request by the sheriff’s office to look into allegation Lang was obtaining destruction orders on firearms from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office evidence room and then pawning the guns for cash.

Lang turned himself into the Rockdale County Jail without incident, according to the GBI.

The case is still under investigation.

It was not immediately known if Lang had obtained a lawyer or when his first appearance was scheduled.
