GBI: Man shot, killed by Greene County deputy during struggle

- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Greene County.

The deadly encounter started with a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 77 and Penfield Road in Greene County.

GBI investigators say Charles David Robinson was behind the wheel and ran away from the car. The Greene County deputy ran after him.

That's when a struggle happened, and Robinson, 47, was shot. He was transported to St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. It's unclear whether Robinson was armed.

An autopsy will be performed by the GBI’s Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.

"We continue to do interviews.  An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at GBI headquarters this morning," Special Agent in Charge Joe Wooten told FOX 5 News at the scene.

The deputy was transported to an Athens hospital for treatment and was later released. Investigators say that deputy is on administrative leave.
