GBI: Mother shot by Cobb County Police officers

- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the deadly shooting of a Cobb County mother by three officers.

The incident occurred on Robin Hood Place in Marietta, according to Cobb County Police.

The GBI said the victim was a mother who was apparently the subject of a suicide threat call made around 12:22 p.m. Investigators said she had a gun in her hands at the time of the shooting.

Neighbor Diana Nash heard the fatal shooting from her back deck.

"Police had a bullhorn. They were asking somebody to come out with their hands up. They just wanted to see if they were okay. They said this over and over again. Then I heard them say ‘Put the gun down, put the gun down,’ and then I heard gunshots," Nash said.

The woman's 3-year-old child was inside the home at the time of the shooting, but was not injured, according to officials. Police also said the woman did not fire a shot, but officers fired when they saw her make overt moves toward them.

Cobb County Police were familiar with the home because they had responded to the address for similar suicidal calls in the past.

They were not ready to release the 32-year-old woman's name.
