Officers apprehend 2 trying to flee police in busy shopping area

- Frightening moments in the Vinings area Saturday afternoon after a vehicle fleeing from police crashes into a vehicle, and officers draw weapons to apprehend two suspects.

Cobb County Police said they tried to pull over a white vehicle driving along Paces Ferry Road, but it sped away. The driver ended up crashing into at least one other driver, ending the pursuit near Vinings Slope just before 3:10 p.m.

Officers were seen by witnesses with their guns drawn. Some people who were in the area at the time fled into nearby stores to take cover.

“The police were there within 5 seconds, had the car surrounded, guns drawn, and was trying to talk him out of the car. I think the driver got out, but the passenger wouldn't move. Took about, oh, a good 15 to 20, 30 seconds to get him out,” the witness told FOX 5’s Jaclyn Schultz.

Police officers could be seen surrounding the car at gunpoint. Police said both the driver and passenger were taken into custody without further incident.

It was not immediately released why police were chasing the car or why they decided to run.

The name of the driver and passenger have not yet been released.

Charges are pending.
