Saturday night was a night to celebrate the power of giving in downtown Atlanta.

The PIVOT Foundation held its first ever "Companies Who Care" gala at the Gathering Spot, and Mayor Kasim Reed delivered the keynote address.

The nonprofit helps women who have dealt with troubles, such as divorce and job elimination, succeed in business or even start their own.

The group gave awards to UPS, The Home Depot, and Georgia-Pacific for the companies' philanthropic efforts.

"They're doing business in these communities. In some ways, they're adding to the community by job creation and economic empowerment, but I think they could go a little deeper." PIVOT CEO Glenda Swain said. "There's a lot of issues that are happening not just in the city of Atlanta, but across the country."

The PIVOT Foundation also announced that it will set up an annual scholarship named after Mayor Reed for a deserving student at Reed's old school, WestLake High School.
