Former officer indicted, accused of stealing from suspect during arrest

ATHENS, Ga. - A former Athens-Clarke County Police officer is indicted on charges of theft by taking and violation of oath of office.

Christopher Miller was charged in connection to the stealing of $360 off an Athens man he arrested back in 2015 for trespassing.

The suspect reported the incident to officers.

The police department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation launched separate investigations.

Miller was placed on paid administrative leave, but then resigned days later.

He is scheduled to be arraigned later this month.
