Former Georgia special education teacher sentenced for child porn

MACON, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A Georgia high school teacher is going to prison for having nearly 500 images and videos of child porn.

Robert Smith, 44, was a special education teacher at Central High School in Macon.

According to the plea agreement, Atlanta officials were notified by investigators from New Zealand about Smith's activity in a child porn chatroom.

Federal officials confiscated six computers, an iPad, an iPhone, and two external hard drives from his home.

Smith was sentenced to 90 months in prison followed by 25 years of supervised release.
