Firefighters in the San Francisco Bay area rescued a man who fell inside an industrial cement mixer.

Firefighters were able to secure the worker with a harness to keep him from sinking deeper into the cement.

Crews also gave the man oxygen while draining cement out of the bottom of the hopper.

"The more we can get the victim involved, so if he's just there at our beck and call they get really nervous." Alameda County Fire Capt. Richard Riggs said. "But if we can have them do small things - either help dig yourself out, or hey, hold on to this for me, it keeps their mind busy and keeps them from either it becoming more of an issue or just freaking out more I guess."

The man was hosed down before being taken away in an ambulance.

It's still unclear how he fell into the hopper.
