Some residents of a Gwinnett County apartment complex are being moved after one of the complex's buildings caught fire Saturday night.

Fire crews were called to the Preserve at Mill Creek Apartments on the 1400 block of Mall of Georgia Boulevard when neighbors saw smoke coming from the building and called for help.

Before firefighters were on the scene, people who live at the complex began trying to fight the fire themselves with extinguishers.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the balconies of two apartment units. The fire caused extensive damaged to the balconies, with smoke damage affecting the units as well.

No one was hurt in the fires, officials say.

After an investigation, officials believe that the fire was an accident caused by "improperly discarded smoking materials on the balcony." The occupant of the apartment the fire started from was not at home at the time.
