BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. - Firefighters in Bartow County were busy Friday battling a large wildfire near the Allatoona Dam.
The fire started Thursday evening off Old River Road. The Bartow County Fire Department's Wildland Crew spent the day digging trenches, dousing flames, and creating a fire break around the forest fire.
The Day Use facility was closed to the public Friday at Cooper's Furnace.
Photos shared by the Bartow County Fire Department shows the blaze encroaching upon the Allatoona Dam facility. Firefighters said they were able to minimize damage around the facility.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles all around, especially boaters on the lake on Thursday and Friday. FOX 5 viewers sent some images from the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released. There have been no reports of injuries because of the fire.
