Fight at event venue leads to deadly officer-involved shooting

AUSTELL, Ga. - The person shot by a Cobb County officer early Saturday morning has been identified.

The Cobb County Police Department said Eduardo Valencia repeatedly fired a weapon at the officer outside the Elegant Point Event Hall on Riverside Parkway in Austell around 2:24 a.m. Saturday. Officers said they were forced to return fire, striking the Valencia.

He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said they initially responded to the location after a report of a fight. The nature of that fight was not immediately known.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
