Family, friends plea for help in shooting of retired veteran

- Family and friends of a 59-year-old retired military veteran, who was shot and killed during a robbery in northwest Atlanta, will make a public plea Tuesday for help in bringing his killer to justice.

Joined by city council member Felicia Moore, Gregory Montford’s loved ones will gather at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Hollywood Road and North Eugenia Place to ask for information in the shooting, according to a news release.

Montford had just cashed his $600 VA benefit check when an armed man shot and killed him along Hollywood Road before fleeing the scene, according to Atlanta Police. Montford is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital with a bullet lodged in his back, the statement said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 404-577-8477.
