Exclusive: Atlanta mayor works to restore public trust

Keisha Lance Bottoms seeks to improve the image as well as the way Atlanta City Government is functioning.

The mayor asked the City Council late Monday to approve new positions aimed at restoring public trust in the wake of the ongoing federal investigation into corruption during the tenure of former Mayor Kasim Reed.

Bottoms wants to bring on a staffer whose sole charge will be to make sure public records requests are handled in a timely fashion.

And it is not just media who make the requests for information. Citizens are also entitled to know what is going on.

Secondly, the mayor wants to hire a watchdog of sorts. She said the city needs a Chief Integrity Officer who can report directly to the mayor should a problem or issue arise.
