Ellenwood couple targeted by more than a half-dozen car thieves caught on camera

- It happened in 2 minutes flat on May at 3:30 a.m. Security video shows what appears to be a Dodge Ram pulled in behind a Dodge Charger or Challenger in the driveway of a home in Ellenwood. Several young men hopped out and started pulling car door handles. Candace and Herbert did not want to show their faces or reveal their address, but did want to share this video and sound the alarm.

“We saw four people. Two in a car and two in the truck got and then there were two drivers and one person in the backseat of the car," said Herbert, who asked us not to share his last name. “We can see two men going through my wife's truck. That's where they found my spare key and that's how they got in to steal my truck.”

Herbert's red and tan Ford F-150 was captured on the security camera from the couple's DeKalb County subdivision as the thieves fled towards River Road near Snapfinger Road. They shared still the images with FOX 5 hoping someone might recognize the other vehicles used in the crime.

They are not sure they will ever get their truck back, but they want people who park in their driveways to be on high alert.

"It's just so frustrating because you work hard for the things you get. You get up and go to work every day and work hard. But the criminals just wake up to commit crimes. It's a job for them, so we all have to lock our doors and be on the lookout," said Herbert's wife Candace.

DeKalb County Police are reviewing the video from both security videos to get better descriptions of the men caught on camera. They are also trying to determine if the vehicles used in the crime are stolen.
