ATLANTA - Dozens of families in several nearby Buckhead neighborhoods woke up to find numerous pumpkins missing from porches, while some were even startled in the middle of the night by thieves running onto their front lawn.
Police said at least one family called 911 over pumpkin thefts on their porch. Families reported the thefts in the Springlake, Castlewood, and Brandon neighborhoods in the area of Northside Drive and Howell Mill Road.
One family said they believed burglars were breaking into their home when their alarm went off in the late hours of Wednesday night to Thursday morning, as pumpkin thieves rushed onto their porch to steal their gourds.
"It does not feel good that people think they could take pumpkins," said 10-year-old Jack Anderson, who discovered his pumpkin missing from his porch.
Police advise people to keep porch lights on, install motion lights or security cameras to prevent decoration thefts.
