Four days had passed since an elderly Atlanta woman started hearing strange noises from beneath her home. Four days of some noises belonging to some sort of critter.

It was Friday when LifeLine Animal Project's Fulton County Shelter received a call from the resident. An Animal Services Officer was sent out to the Bakers Ferry Road address and what Officer Poorman found was bit heartbreaking.

Making their way through the crawl space under the home, the officers found a four-foot well. At the bottom was a dog that looked pregnant.

Thankfully, animal service officials were able to pull the dog safely from the well using a harness. She was taken to the shelter to be checked out by a vet. If she checks out okay and once her puppies are weaned, they could be available for adoption.

Officials believe the dog was trying to find a warm, safe place for her expected litter, but instead ended up at the bottom of the well.

The homeowner told officers that the whole thing came as quite a shock and that she didn’t even know that she had a well under her home.
