LOCUST GROVE, Ga. - Authorities in Cobb County are investigating an alleged dog abuse claim.
Justine Stinnett rescues dogs and just over a month ago she found “Lucky” a foster home. Stinnett says Saturday night she found the dog in a crate outside of the foster home in Cobb County.
“I was devastated,” Justine Stinnett told FOX 5.
Lucky is being treated at Woodland Animal Hospital. Doctors said the pup lost over 20 pounds in a matter of weeks.
“This is one of the worst cases I’ve seen,” Dr. Lexie Mahn said. “Normally if you put them on a scale of 1-9 or 1-10, with 9 and 10 being extremely overweight, this dog is a 1... he’s extremely malnourished, very thin... very weak.”
Stinnett says everything seemed to be going great with the foster family, but then things got sketchy.
“She wouldn’t respond anymore,” Stinnett said. “She sent me a picture of him and he was very skinny. All I saw was the top of his head. I just knew he was going to be in bad shape.”
The one year old deaf dog is currently 31 pounds.
“I didn’t know if he was going to make it,” Stinnett said. “It was bad. His organs could have shut down.”
Cobb County confirmed with FOX 5 that they are investigating the case, but no charges have been filed against the foster family at this time.
