The DeKalb County Police Department honored fallen officers in a special ceremony Wednesday morning.

The memorial service recognized fallen officers from jurisdictions across the county. It took place at the DeKalb Historic Center on East Court Square in Decatur.

Organizers read the names of officers who died in the line of duty, and the service ended with a 21-gun salute.

Next week marks National Police Week, and similar ceremonies have been taking place across Georgia. On Tuesday, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and other Atlanta officials paid their respects to the City of Atlanta's fallen police officers.

The city held its annual police memorial service and paid tribute to 88 Atlanta Police officers killed in the line of duty.
