Police say 26-year-old Trenten Baldwin faces charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident left Interstate 75 North closed for some time early Monday morning. Authorities said a motorcyclist died in the crash that happened just after 2:30 a.m. Northbound traffic was blocked at South Marietta Parkway, and drivers were diverted off the interstate to get around the crash scene.

A Marietta police officer responding to the scene of the initial crash was inside her cruiser when she was hit from behind by another vehicle after stopping along the highway. The officer, a 19-year-old veteran of the force, suffered minor injuries.

Investigators remained at the scene of the initial crash, but the highway re-opened to traffic shortly after 5 a.m.
