A man has been arrested on DUI charges after hitting an officer conducted an roadside investigation of a deadly crash along Interstate 75 NB in Cobb County.

Police say 26-year-old Trenten Baldwin faces charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident left Interstate 75 North closed for some time early Monday morning. Authorities said a motorcyclist died in the crash that happened just after 2:30 a.m. Northbound traffic was blocked at South Marietta Parkway, and drivers were diverted off the interstate to get around the crash scene.

A Marietta police officer responding to the scene of the initial crash was inside her cruiser when she was hit from behind by another vehicle after stopping along the highway. Police said Baldwin was the driver who hit the officer. He was treated at Kennestone Hospital, then taken to the Cobb County Jail. The officer, a 19-year-old veteran of the force, suffered minor injuries.

Investigators remained at the scene of the initial crash, but the highway re-opened to traffic shortly after 5 a.m.
