Conyers Police seek repeat car break-in suspect

He was supposed to turn himself into the jail in July, but instead, police said he kicked off a whole new round of crimes.

Anthony Sanchez Vaughn, 35, is wanted on an escapee warrant and four theft warrants out of Conyers. According to investigators, Vaughn reached a plea deal with prosecutors over the summer for a series of similar thefts in 2015, but instead of serving his time, he continues to break into cars parked outside local restaurants.

"[He] pulls up beside a car and either punches the lock or punches the glass and he's in and out in a matter of minutes, shoots up the road to Stonecrest [Mall] and uses somebody else's credit cards," said Conyers Police Captain Jackie Dunn.

One police report shows that Vaughn racked up hundreds of dollars of charges at Macy's, Foot Locker and other retailers before one of his alleged victims was able to shut off their credit and debit cards.

"He survives by preying off other people," Dunn explained.

The most recent victim, according to police, had gone to eat at Coaxum's Low Country Cuisine Friday afternoon.  When he returned to his Chevrolet Suburban, he noticed his holster lying in the parking lot.

"That was the first red flag and I immediately opened my door and looked inside to where my firearm was and it was gone," said the man, who did not want to be identified.  "You feel violated, big time and I mean, I'm at the point really I don't even want this vehicle anymore."

Police said Vaughn has stolen more than one gun, as well as laptops, iPads and even clothing items.

"That's probably always going to be on my conscience just knowing that my gun's out there in the hands of someone who you know, probably doesn't care a whole lot about who they hurt," said the man whose gun was stolen last week.
