Construction is now underway on Atlanta’s west side, on an apartment building to house the homeless.

Groundbreaking of the Gertrude Iraldo Thompson Memorial Building took place Thursday afternoon.

Officials said the eight-unit apartment building will provide 16 new beds for homeless individuals now working to rebuild their lives at the organization Making A Way Housing.

The group provides emergency, transitional, and permanent housing for those in need.

Making A Way Housing was joined by Home-Aid Atlanta and Brock Built Homes in this effort.
