Community calls for cease fire after two kids shot at birthday party

The mother of a 3-year-old boy shot in the back joins a crowd of neighbors, city leaders, and police who call for an end to the violence in a community plagued by shootings.

"You shot into a crowd full of kids. You got to feel some type of remorse," said mother Megan Holmes in a message to the shooters. She said she is grateful her son recovered quickly after a bullet went through his back, and went home the next day after an hour-long surgery.

On the evening of April 20 on Buckhurst Drive, Holmes' son, three-year-old Lawrence, a 5-year-old girl and an adult in their 20s were hit by gunfire, after someone fired numerous shots into a crowded birthday held outside.

"There was a five year old little girl, hurt in this stupidity-- in this ignorance," said South Fulton community leaders to a crowd at the rally for a cease fire in the neighborhood.

"They have gunfire each and every night," one concerned neighbor said.

Police called the shooting "horrible," and have not released a motive in the brutal attack. Investigators have made no arrests yet.

Organizers said the 5-year-old girl who was shot is still recovering at the hospital, and most recently had her breathing tubes removed.
