Cobb high school student robbed at gunpoint near campus

- A high school student was robbed at gunpoint near campus Tuesday afternoon and some in the community are fed up with the recent crime.

According to Cobb County Police report, it happened around 6 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Caswyck Trail Apartments, located just down the street from Osborne High School. A group of suspects around 17 to 25 years old robbed a 17-year-old boy of his smart phone and $25 in cash.

“That's not worth it at all because now that kid could probably be traumatized forever over a cell phone and a couple bucks,” said China Hopkins, who graduated from Osborne earlier this year.

The victim was not hurt in the robbery. He returned to the school to notify police and was able to identify a few of the suspects for officers, including one who attends the school.

Students involved in extra-curricular activities Tuesday said they were put on lockdown until their parents could pick them up from campus.

It's always nerve-wracking when you hear anything like that that happens around the school," said Adrian Woods, a mother of a freshman band member. “As a parent, until I get there, as long as they're safe, I'm good and I think they made sure all the students were safe.”

This was the second time in less than a week that the school was put on lockdown. Osborne was in a “code yellow” August 30 as police searched the area for an armed robbery suspect.

“It's extremely frustrating. We can't get anything done with this type of stuff going around,” said 11th grader Tyler Yule. “How are we supposed to get the education that we're supposed to be getting here?”

The armed robbery is still under investigation.
