MARIETTA, Ga. - A cleaning lady is behind bars and three Marietta police officers are being praised for their quick work to make an arrest in a burglary case.
Last month, a resident called 911 after realizing someone stole valuable items from their home, including jewelry. A police report said the jewelry included an engagement ring and wedding ring.
Marietta Police Officer Don Smith reported to the scene, collected evidence and spoke with the victims. Detectives Andy Colquitt and David Auld were assigned to the case and worked together with Officer Smith to quickly identify a possible property match listed for sale at a local pawn shop.
Within 24 hours, police identified Lillian Harshaw as the suspect, and the stolen items were returned to the owners.
Police later learned a local house cleaning company that had been servicing the home for several years had hired some new employees, including Harshaw.
Harshaw is accused of taking the jewelry from inside the home, then selling the items to the pawn shop. She's now facing several charges, including theft by taking.
