IHOP robbery suspect arrested after FOX 5 report

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Pictures of a suspected armed robber have lead to an arrest in Clayton County.

Morrow City Police say minutes after FOX 5 News aired IHOP surveillance photos of a robbery, someone called Crime Stoppers with the suspects name: Joey Terrell Council.

Officers say they were able to piece the evidence together from there. So far, Morrow police say they can link Council to five or more armed robberies in town. 

"He was still the same as his mannerisms during the robberies. He was courteous. He talked to us he was very calm," said Sgt. Q. Lumpkin of Morrow City Police. 

Lumpkin said they were able to get clear shots of Council's face and body type off of many of the businesses' videos.

Clayton County Sheriff's deputies made the arrest on Monday. Officials said they found him at home, and he wasn't surprised to see them.

"There are other cities and they are actively investigating their crimes as well so they are able to get enough probable cause for the arrest," Lumpkin said. 

Lumpkin says they've issued more warrants and should have even more charges against Council soon. 

According to the Clayton County Sheriff's office, Council is the first member of Sheriff Victor Hill's Catch a Robber for Christmas program, which is designed to "spread holiday cheer" among robbers. The program provides suspects with free accommodations at the "Hill ton" Hotel, which is also known as the Clayton County Jail. 

"Council found out he won his free accommodations when Sheriff Victor Hill's elite Fugitive Squad surprised him with the news giving him a free 'limo-ride' to the 'Hill ton,'" the statement said.   

The sheriff's office said Council is the "premiere poster child" for the Catch a Robber for Christmas program.
