Civil rights groups come together on Decatur Confederate memorial

Civil rights groups come together in Decatur to discuss a recent statement about the Confederate monument on Decatur Square

DeKalb County attorney O.V. Brantley released a legal opinion Tuesday that the county could move the monument, but not destroy or conceal it.

That would keep the county safe under a Georgia law that prohibits altering Confederate monuments.

The groups said moving the monument is just the first step.

There has been some statewide effort to repeal the state's ban on covering or destroying Confederate monuments.
